Wirksworth runnning club’s second socially distanced 1-mile relay race replaced normal Monday night training this week, with 26 club members out in force, either refereeing the race (thank you Brian Clements!) or running a mile as fast as they posssibly could on the High Peak trail.  Once again, in spite of the dead turn on the course, many club members achieved PBs on the night and there were some incredible individual runs in a very close race indeed (all 4 teams finished within about 10 seconds of each other!).

From the left in the photo (with one-mile times if known, and winning team members in bold) are Raf Abrahams, Mark Crawshaw (6:14), Dan Griffiths (7:20), Dave Spencer (6:15), Chad Bean (6:32), Liz Abrahams (7:46), Graham Robinson (6:13), Peter Johnston (6:13), Ania Ames (7:28), John Hobson (6:02), John Potter (5:25), Paul Christmas (5:35), Emma Roberts (8:25), Laura Jones (holding daughter, Jennifer) (8:01), Bob King (6:13), Clare Eardley (7:49), Ollie Pratten (6:08), Sarah Chamberlain (7:33), Stef Brassington (6:41), Chris Hubbard (7:12), Zack Hubbard (6:26), Elaine Stone (6:47), Adam Lathbury, Evie and Marc Bellingall.

Special thanks go to Ania Ames, who was kind enough to host a small socially distanced gathering in her garden after the race, which about 10 of us enjoyed.  Thank you, Ania!

The massive success of tonight on top of the success of last time’s event means that WRC will probably be hosting a Christmas version sometime in December.  Why not watch out for when this happens and join us?

Each club member’s fastest mile forms a segment in the the club league.  There are other segments that you can run too.  Details of how the club league is operating during the lockdown can be found here on our website.
