Tunnels & Trails Charity 10k Cake Run and Fun Run.
by Liz Abrahams

Phew, what a Scorcher!

A beautiful June evening saw over 150 people up at Middleton Top ready to run along the trail.

First was the 2.5k Fun Run with 21 children and 1 adult making their way along the High Peak trail, through the tunnel and back again. All were cheered across the finish line to be rewarded with homemade cake! It was great to see so many children between the ages of 5 and 15 running the distance. A huge well done to them all.

The 10k race saw 127 racers set off in the brilliant sunshine. It was a sweaty one! The route is an out and back and involves one tunnel and the Hopton Incline. This year it also involved navigating around a scout group who were cycling the trail, but thanks to the excellent marshalling all was fine!

Wirksworth Running Club runners were out representing the club and getting some good times despite the hot conditions. Lewis was the first Wirksworth member across the line in 8th, also achieving 1st place in his age category. Zack was 25th (1st in age category), Kat and Helen E. 47th & 49th (both with PBs), James 55th, Malcolm 57th and Neve 117th (a fantastic run for her first 10k event).

Race winner men’s: Simon Fisher Matlock AC
Race winner women’s: Louise Rowley Matlock AC.

A huge array of home baked cakes were waiting for all the finishers and were very much appreciated by all. Welll earned by all the runner and the big team of marshals – a big thank you to all those who volunteered.

A whopping £736.32 was raised to be distributed between local charities, and 32 pairs of shoes were donated to Derby Refugee Solidarity by runners and Mike from Run Forest.
