Welcome to the triathlon section of the Wirksworth Running Club website!
Some of the WRC members are either triathletes or have dabbled with duathlon and/or triathlon. If you’ve never done a triathlon and would like to give one a go, it’s a good idea to start with a pool-based “sprint” triathlon where the swim distance is only 400 metres and it’s in a swimming pool. It usually involves a 400m swim, a 20km bike, and a 5km run. The effort level required to complete this is roughly equivalent to that needed to run a 10km running race.
For example, I will be doing the Wilmslow sprint triathlon on 19th April 2020, it’s a perfect course for anyone new to the sport. I often cycle to parkruns on Saturdays, so you could join me for that to see what it’s like to cycle and then run. I’m also happy to offer help on swimming, which is the bit that many worry about.
Please just give me a shout if you’re interested in trying a tri in 2020!
