The start of the first BDL of the summer season had the field of over 370 runners gathered against the old railway platform on the Teversal Trails, a short walk from the visitor centre. The previous railways of the Teversal Trails are now popular recreational paths forming part of the wider Pleasley/Brierly/Silverhill network. The race route formed a single loop, on the flat, well surfaced trail and conditions were dry with light winds, so combined with good marshalling and the flattish route, made for a fast race.

Wirksworth had a team of 5 runners, but with Simon Edwards unfortunately having to pull out due to injury part way through the race (a good decision on his part as he seems to have hopefully avoided creating any long term issue.) The remaining Wirksworth contingent ran strongly in amongst a field of competent runners; The race was won by Sam Moakes, recent winner of the Derby 10K, and Wirksworth’s own Derby 10K runner Dave Spencer also came in a very respectable 3rd place in his age category. Lewis Glover ran his fastest BDL time, Adam Leighton ran on form with an impressive sub 100 place, and Ania Amies representing Wirksworth ladies, came romping over the line as 38th lady finisher.

Our 4 finishers all completed the run within the top 60% which we can consider a good start to the season!
