A large field of runners presented themselves at the old train platform near to the Teversal Park visitor centre for the start of the first race of the Derby Runner BDL 2025 summer season. Unlike April 2024, the weather had been untypically dry, meaning once the pack surged forward on the sound of the starting horn, it wasn’t long before dust clouds were more the order of the day rather than puddles!

The route followed it’s regular fast and flat trail route, with a shortish zig-zag chicane section within the first half of the 4.7 mile route, being the only tight turns to be negotiated.

15 WRC members ran the first run of the season at Teversal in amongst a total of 389 finishers, and attained some sparkling results including the following;
-Chris Hall’s 20th position overall, saw him within the lofty heights of the top 5% of finishers.
-Elaine came 2nd in her age cat
-Richard knocked 50 seconds off his 2024 time (& came 15 places higher in the men’s ranking)
-And Phil Williams running his first BDL for the club came well within the top 50% of finishers.

Not being a team known to shy away from cake, Wirksworth runners indulged in well-earned edible delights of the Watson/Davey ‘bake off’, washed down with warm drinks.

Race 2 of the series hosted by Matlock, will take place at Cromford, on Tuesday 6th May(also with presentations from winter league.)
