Saturday morning dawned cool and cloudy but we were confident the sun would shine on us thanks to Nicky making her weather deal. Sure enough, after a couple of km the clouds parted to reveal glorious blue skies.
We headed out towards the impressive peaks of The Dragons Back, despite a few setbacks from splinters and ankle twisting terrain. A steep climb and we were at the summit of High Wheeldon, with spectacular views across the Derbyshire countryside.
A quick stop for photos (and to get our breath back) and we were heading downhill across fields full of beautiful spring wildflowers.
We passed plenty of sheep (with lambs!) and cows (with calves!), plus more than our fair share of giant flies. Despite an attempt from a herd of teenage cows to trample us along with a drystone wall, we made it onto the High Peak Trail unscathed (not counting the mud from an unfortunate downhill tumble).
A pleasantly flat few km, passing multiple groups embarking upon their Duke of Edinburgh awards, and we were finished. A beautiful 15km in the spring sunshine!
We headed straight for Tagg Lane Dairy where we spent far too long deliberating over the ice cream flavours and generous portions of cake.
Thanks to Gavin for his excellent route planning this month, and to Nicky as ever for organising and guaranteeing great weather.
Our next cake run will be on Saturday 17th if you fancy joining us!
