Four WRC runners raced the 2021 Ricky‘s Race at Darley Bridge on Thursday 12th August.  Caroline and Clare were on day 2 of their epic three day fell race trilogy having raced the perilously steep Eccles Pike the previous evening and racing Hob Hurst’s House Race at Beeley the following day.
Caroline came in 7th in her age category, 102nd overall, in 45:48 while Clare came in 11th in the same category, 133rd overall in 50:24.
Dave and Mark were doing their first fell races since the Covid disruption started and Dave showed he’s lost none of his elite performance coming 3rd in his category out of 20 runners and 51st overall in 39:23.  Dave told our roving reporter after the event ’I didn’t like that’, but we all know he loved it really. Mark managed just a disappointing 7th in his category of 29 runners but a respectable 36th overall in 37:54.
The women’s course record for the race was smashed on the night by Caroline Brock of Steel City Striders in 33:03 while the overall winner was Greg Hopkinson of Matlock AC in 29:33. Many thanks to Matlock AC for a really enjoyable and well organised event on a perfect summer’s fellrunning evening.
