Whilst others were running the BDL race at Ilkeston, four hardy WRC members embarked on a long-course orienteering event at Great Longstone. Jo Butt, Rachel Hathaway, Emma Roberts and Clare Eardley fully tested their map-reading skills in a 3-hour challenge to score as many points as possible by finding check points around the Great Longstone area. A map is given to runners after they start and a route has to planned and navigated with no further signage. A few lessons were learnt from Rachel and Emma’s first attempt at one of these races, where they lost 35 points for being late back!  A compass was used and a refreshing cup of tea was enjoyed by all at the finish. Both teams scored 155 points and didn’t come last…

It was a great event, which they would fully recommend. The next round is on the 15th December at Grindleford, which all 4 of them are entered for.
