A new course at the Whitworth Thread attracted most Wirksworth parkrunners there this week and it proved to be a good course, as we had five of us finish in the top 13 places! Bob King (19:40), Mark Crawshaw (20:26), Stacy Newton (20:32) ,Chris Gillot (21:00) and Dave Spencer (21:06), who managed to avoid any collisions with all things 4-legged this week.
In the other local parkruns, Paul Christmas was at Long Eaton to slot in a fast 5km as part of his ongoing marathon training. It’s a mark of just what a top runner Paul is to say that he was slightly disappointed with his 18:07 but the high winds and heavens opening at 9:01am didn’t exactly help him. Meanwhile, also getting drenched and blown about, at Markeaton, Brian Clements (24:50) ran yet another sub-25, whilst John Potter (20:45) pushed his daughter, Jennifer, round in the buggy.
But we’ve saved the best until last with news of a parkrun silver medal in Germany! James Watson represented Wirksworth running club at the Pieschener Allee parkrun, in Dresden, coming home in 2nd place with 22:21. Herzliche Gluckwunsche, James!
