An incredible set of results for Wirksworth at Bakewell this week.  Seven of us were there and we’ve got to start with birthday boy, Bob King, who, at the grand old age of 48, equalled his lifetime PB of 19:26!  James Watson ran his fastest ever parkrun at any venue (21:39), a massive 17-second dent in his previous Bakewell best.  Sarah Chamberlain also took a large 10-second chunk out of her PB, running 26:38 – the sub-26 is on the horizon!  Jenny Godfrey opened her official parkrun account with a very respectable 27:48, whilst Jo Butt ran 29:38, comfortably under the 30-minute mark again.  John Potter (18:42) and Rachel Hathaway (30:24) weren’t quite at their best but both ran well and were very happy to just be there amongst all the Wirksworth success!  As an aside, watch out for the name ‘Issy Waugh’ when you’re watching the Olympics in 2032 – this 11-year-old girl ran the course in 19 minutes 22 seconds, narrowly pipping our Bob King to the post in the process – now that’s a story for his 61st birthday 😉

On the road, Brian Clements volunteered at the Crystal Palace parkrun.  As well as recently completing his 200th parkrun, Brian has now volunteered 37 times.  Parkrun simply wouldn’t exist without volunteers, so if you’re a volunteer reading this, a big Christmas thank you from Wirksworth running club to all those volunteers that have allowed us to enjoy so many parkruns at different venues this year!
