Friday evening’s Wirksworth running club Christmas party was such a raucous affair (some reports suggesting that a few even stayed up chatting until 11pm) that a couple of runners couldn’t get past the alarm clock stage of their Saturday mornings this week. However, we were still out in force at Bakewell and running well. Sarah Chamberlain was our star runner for the second week running, obliterating her lifetime PB with a time of 26:48. ‘Can Bob King get a sub-20?’ isn’t really a meaningful question these days, so accustomed he is to showing us that the answer is ‘Yes’ – Bob ran 19:47 without going too far into the pain zone of oxygen defiicit, picking up 5th place in the process. James Watson’s 22:10 was only 14 seconds off his Bakewell best, even more impressive when you consider that he cycled from Kirk Ireton to Wirksworth to start the day – no alarm clock trouble for James! Last but not least, John Potter, mindful of his next-day Bolsover 10km race, paced 26:59 for Sarah – she left him for dust at about 4km – well done, Sarah!
