This month’s social cake run set off from Hathersage. After some minor parking drama involving £1000 shoes, a group of 16 of us set off for some muddy miles on the trails.
Despite the allure of less elevation than the February cake run in Cromford, we had a fair bit of climb in the first few km but we were rewarded with glorious views over Stanage Edge. Although we had been promised rain, the clouds soon parted to reveal plenty of blue skies and sunshine. This led to quite a few hastily grabbed jackets and layers being shed, as well as some regret about the lack of sunglasses!
We ran along the edge, trying to take in the glorious views whilst also keeping our eyes on the rocks, puddles and bogs – a trail runner’s dream! We continued towards Burbage, passing some familiar faces and overcoming some minor mishaps along the way, and the scenery just kept getting better.
The final few km were through Padley Gorge – the perfect spot to cool off with a wild swimming dip! We followed the river back towards Hathersage where tea and cake awaited us.
Thanks again to Nicky for organising and navigating another spectacular route.
