Saturday 6th of July saw a dozen of our club runners attend Belper Running Club’s Derwent River Relays. 4-person teams tackled the 4.5km, mixed terrain laps. These started at the Meadows Sports Club, routed through fields, a short stretch of Morrisons carpark, over the river, back along the tow path, re-crossing the river at Belper Mill before returning to the Sports Club.

As we had entered four teams, a shortfall on the day meant some lucky runners got to run twice! This resulted in Steve demonstrating great skills to form teams that not only conformed with category rules, but also scheduled runners to ensure seamless relay handovers.

Fun was had by all, in particular our category-winning Senior Ladies Team, and we just about escaped the threatened heavy rain showers.

Once we’d got the running out of the way, the important business of rehydrating around the pubs of Belper could begin.

Next year, we need to work on fancy dress ideas, or at the very least, comedy batons.
