Five Wirksworth runners were involved in Sunday’s Derby 10km race.  Wirksworth’s fastest runner, Chris Sleath, finished 5th overall in the race, in an astonishing time of 32:48.  Dave Spencer continued his fine form with 42:21, Stef Brassington ran a very tidy 47:02, and Georgia Mai-Wlaker just keeps getting stronger, as her 54:27 PB shows.  Chris Hubbard was slightly disappointed with his 56:10, describing it as ‘not my day’, however, whilst we know that Chris is faster than this on his best day, it’s still a very solid performance – indeed, there are plenty of runners in the club who would be thrilled to be comfortably inside the hour for a 10km.  Well done, all!

Adam Leighton is getting back to his best with this sub-21 at Alvaston

These top performances followed another Saturday of parkrun success.  On the road, Simon Edwards was at the Old Deer parkrun in Richmond and put in a solid 21:26, John Potter’s 19:02 was enough for 5th place at the Folkestone parkrun, and Brian Clements’ 25:51 saw him speeding up a bit at Crystal Palace.

Closer to home, a smiling Adam Leighton ran a swift 20:59 for his maiden outing at Alvaston, whilst Sarah Chamberlain (26:50) and Chloe Gordon (25:36) kept it classical by running at Markeaton.  Chloe’s effort was actually her first parkrun at Markeaton and it sees her sneak into a joint lead in the women’s section of the 2021 club league!
