Happy New Year!
The 1st day of 2019 saw a new venue and a new course for Dave Denton’s annual New Year’s Day Hangover road race.
Relocated to the Bull’s Head at Belper Lane End, the new 4.8 mile route takes in an undulating downhill 1st mile before a testing 2 miles uphill followed by a triangle with a long, fast downhill section to the finish.
6 WRC members made up part of the 80 runners (in varying degrees of bleary eyedness) who turned up, keen to set their stalls out early for the coming year.
Special mentions go to the heroic James Watson, who arrived ready for action having completed Markeaton Parkrun just minutes before, and Mark Crawshaw, who powered through his own double whammy of a hangover and a stinking cold. Legendary stuff.
After a bit of a kerfuffle with the results, the finishing times and (probable) positions for WRC runners are:
17 – Bob King – 33:56
25 – Mark Crawshaw – 35:13
35 – Chris Gillott – 37:29
36 – James Watson – 37:33
54 – Elaine Stone – 41:34
67 – Emma Roberts – 45:52
