Report by Stacy Newton

Monday saw an impressive 15 Wirksworth runners take on the Bonsall Hill race.

The race forms part of the village carnival and is relatively short at 3.75 miles but has some impressive climbs to deal with.  It starts at the cross next to the Kings Head pub, climbs up Ember Lane, crosses over 2 fields, and goes downhill past the school before returning to the cross.  It’s great value at only £2 as you then get to do all of that again!
The weather was kind and conditions underfoot were good with only one slippery muddy section to contend with.
For Wirksworth, the dynamic duo Sleath brothers came home first with Chris finishing an impressive 2nd overall.  Other notable efforts include John Hobson (pictured) who, continuing his great run of form, took maximum points in the WRC league, and Mark Crawshaw who came in as 1st local ginger MV50, a niche category but a win is a win!
Bob King managed to find his club vest this time out and passed the incognito baton onto Jo Butt.  Stacy Newton used the local knowledge he has aquired over the last 9 years of living in the village, including regularly running this very course, to the full and managed to not get lost for a change.
There were 69 runners in the 2 lap race.  Wirksworth results were as follows:
Chris Sleath 24:06
Dan Sleath 24:57
John Potter 27:14
John Hobson 29:04
Mark Crawshaw 29:15
Bob King 29:19
Stacy Newton 29:45
Lewis Glover 29:54
Simon Edwards 30:17
Chris Gillott 30:53
Steve Wooliscroft 33:56
Susan Sweetman 34:50
Clare Eardley 40:21
Rachel Hathaway 44:18
Jo Butt 44:45
