Wirksworth Running Club were excited to contribute 3 teams, each made up of 4 runners at the Belper Harriers Derwent River (Relay) race on 3rd July.  The approximate 4.5km route took in a varied and scenic terrain, making for an interesting loop.  This year saw a change in proceedings away from the traditional relay set-up due to Covid restrictions.  With teams spaced at 90-second departure intervals, each whole team left at the same time.

The morning of the event saw significant rainfall with thunder storms forecast during, all adding to excitement levels.  In the end the sun came out making for very humid conditions.  The rain would have been rather welcome if had come, which it didn’t!

Well attended by local running clubs, this event was very well organised, with a well signed and marshalled route.  Certainly, well worth recommending and definitely suitable for all abilities to enjoy.

Special thanks to Jo Butt for organising our club’s entry and well done to all the WRC runners.  All brilliant efforts, you did our club proud!

Here are the results.
