With thunderstorms and hail forecast, only 6 hardy souls braved the cake run! We set off across fields of maize, through a gate (that probably wasn’t a gate!) towards Wyver Lane. There were some lovely butterflies and ‘interested’ cows as we climbed up the hill, all in delightful sunshine!
A refreshingly short blast of rain cooled us down as we approached the Chevin. Downhill next, through the woods towards Blackbrook, where we were out-smarted by a sheep… patiently trying to guide the sheep back to their field, only to watch it run up the track and pop back, smirking, into the same field! Across to Farnah Green next, then along the Midshires Way towards Milford. Beautiful views across Belper (still sunny!) gave us a welcome excuse for another photo stop.
Lovely stretch along the Chevin towards Milford, before winding our way back to Belper for absolutely delicious scones, lunch and cake. The storm held off till we were all warm and snug in the cafe, watching torrential rain with mugs of tasty coffee in hand. Thanks to Andy for leading this month’s run – it was a good’un!
If you fancy joining us next month, we’ll be running from the Meynell Garden Centre on Saturday 19th August.
