On Friday 10th May a team of Wirksworth Runners took on the new Ambergate Fell Race, which was organised as part of the village carnival. It was a short but tricky course starting on a lane to the rear of the Hurt Arms, going through the old wire works before climbing up a wet route through Shining Cliff Woods, looping around before heading back along the lane with a lap of the field to do before the finish line. The race covered 3.6 miles and 480ft of ascent. Bob King was first in for WRC in 18th place (26:23), Dave Spencer 35th (28:16), Chris Gillott 39th (29:10 and taking a dramatic tumble in the woods!) Stacy Newton 41st (29:24), Rachel Hathaway 101st (40:54) and Joanna Butt 113th (43:09). Overall winner was Sam Moakes of Sutton-in Ashfield in 20:40, first female was Shelley Fairey of Matlock AC in 26:43. There were 125 finishers.
