This week we start with news of a parkrun win! It only took him 101 attempts (!) but John Potter (pictured) won his first ever parkrun this week, at Poolsbrook, in a time of 18:42. The time was actually 2 seconds outside his PB for the course but he could not care less – the man was on cloud nine for the weekend!
However, most Wirksworth members headed to Markeaton, where there were some extremely impressive performances. Tanya Rountree catapulted herself straight from last to first in the parkrun section of the club league with a time of 26:24, totally obliterating her Markeaton PB by nearly two minutes! Her previous best had been 28:18 and she had had many other runs around the 28 to 30 minute mark. So this time was truly astonishing, well done, Tanya! Adam Leighton’s achievement was arguably as impressive… his 22:19 knocked another 44 seconds off his PB, which in turn was 39 seconds better than his time before that. At this rate of improvement, there’s surely more to come from Adam. Elaine Stone also ran strongly for a course PB with 24:10, and Brian Clements was only 9 seconds behind Elaine (24:19), consolidating on his similar time from last week. Not going mad, Stacy Newton ran round with them (24:18) – he’s still waiting for his chance to attack that 20-minute barrier at Markeaton. Mark Crawshaw knows very well how to consistently run sub-20s at Markeaton, still returning from injury, Mark went round this week in 20:59.
Simon Edwards flew the flag for Wirksworth at Long Eaton, and was, quite rightly, happy enough with his 20:33. Meanwhile, James Watson nearly ran himself into the top 20 at the Newark parkrun, with 22:04. James had already bagged his 10 club vest points for 5km in the club league.
